Celebration of International Year of Millets 2023 by Embassy of India, Reykjavik
Millets Food Festival, 15th May 2023
The Embassy organised a Millets Food festival on 15th May 2023 which was celebrated along with members of the culinary fraternity and importers of food items in Iceland. Dr Vinutha , Nutrition Biochemist from IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) gave an informative presentation on the benefits of millets and showcased the various ways in which Millets are used in India.
As part of the Festival, a cooking show and food tasting was organised featuring Millets based recipes. Madam Ramya Shyam prepared a number of delicious millets dishes from snacks to desserts and explained the cooking procedure to the audience. Recipes included Broccoli Millet Patty, Millet Lamb Biryani, Bajra roti , Millet Vegetarian Sheek Kebab, Bajra Chicken Salad, Millet Pineapple Halwa and Finger Millet Chocolate Cake.
Guests from the hospitality industry, chefs, cooking aficionados, and lifestyle-health guides participated in the workshop. At the close of the event guests were gifted with millets snacks which were provided by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) . The show created a lot of buzz and curiosity amongst the restaurateurs and the lifestyle-health community of Iceland especially with the build-up generated by press release in a local newsletter.
Millets Exhibit
In celebration the International Year of Millets, the Embassy has set up a year-long exhibition of Millets in the Chancery with Standees promoting health benefits and potential use of Millets for daily cooking. The exhibit showcases Millets samples, with each one accompanied by information displayed in glass cases. It has generated lot of interest among visitors to the Embassy.
