Interaction on the occasion of International Women’s Day 12 March 2025

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Embassy of India, Reykjavik in collaboration with Vigdis International Centre, University of Iceland organised an interaction with an Icelandic author and Icelandic translator on 12th March 2025. The first speaker was Ms. Nína Jónsdóttir, Director General for GRÓ, Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainability and Societal Change and author of the book Daughters of Iceland. The second speaker at the interaction was Ms. Elísa Björg Þorsteinsdóttir, winner of the 2025 Icelandic Translation Prize. She has translated the book Poonachi: Or the Story of a Black Goat by the author Perumal Murugan into Icelandic.

  1. The event was moderated by Dr Shilpa Khatri Babbar, ICCR, Chair of Indian Studies, University of Iceland. It was held at Veröld- House of Vigdís, University of Iceland. Professor Sofiya Zahova, Director of the Vigdis International Centre addressed the gathering. Ambassador of India to Iceland, Shri R Ravindra elaborated on the various initiative of the Government of India in empowering women. The interaction was followed by a lively discussion with the attendees. 
  1. The event was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland and members of the literary community in Iceland.
