76th Republic Day

As part of 76th Republic Day celebration of India, on 26th January, 2025, the Embassy of India, Reykjavik held a flag unfurling ceremony in the Chancery premises at 10:30 hours and a Republic Day Reception at Hotel Hilton Nordica, Reykjavik on 27th January, 2025 in the evening from 16:30 to 18:30 Hours.

2. Nearly 100 Indians and persons of Indian origin attended the flag unfurling ceremony held in the morning. The program commenced with Ambassador R Ravindra unfurling the National flag and reading out the Hon'bl President of India's address. Winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye (BKJ) Quiz were felicitated, including Shri Nihar Ranjan Padhi who was one among the 15 top performers under NRI category. The event also featured singing of patriotic songs by children from the Indian diaspora. The program for the day concluded with light refreshments.

3. The Embassy hosted a reception on 27th January at Hotel Hilton Nordica to commemorate the 76th Republic Day of India. While speaking at the event, Ambassador R Ravindra elaborated on the growing bilateral relations and importance of India-EFTA FTA to further strengthening of India-Iceland relations. The event was graced by Mrs Inga Saeland, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, Permanent Secretary of State, Mr. Martin Eyjolfsson, Mrs Thordis Kolbrun, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, President of Supreme Court of Iceland, Benedikt Bogason, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, colleagues from the Diplomatic corps and other dignitaries from the Government of Iceland. Permanent Secretary and former Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the gathering as well. CEOs, representatives from local business organizations, members of the Indian community and Friends of India also joined for the reception. Around 100 people attended the National Day reception. A video showcasing the growth story of India was played during the reception. It was well received and appreciated by the guests.

4. A photo exhibition on the Constitution was also showcased at Hotel Hilton alongside the National Day Reception. Mission also displayed various One District One Product (ODOP) items from Maharashta (Paithani saree, Warli painting and imitation jewelry) and Uttar Pradesh (Attar, Marble Inlay work, brass items). The exhibition and the display was viewed with interest and greatly appreciated by the attendees. The formal program was followed by a feast of Indian delicacies.
